We have always believed that community is the creator of theater, and that theater is the creator of community. In that spirit we are inviting you to join us as a valued member of our creative community.
As artistic director/founder of El Teatro Campesino, which was born on the picket lines of the Delano Grape Strike with Ceasar Chavez in 1965, I welcome your membership. As one of the grandfathers of modern Latino Theater in America, El Teatro Campesino is known around the world as a Vibrant Theater!
Despite or perhaps because of our base in San Juan Bautista since 1971, our company is largely self-supporting, without city, county, state or federal grants.
This year we are again embarking on a membership campaign. Due to the lack of grants and monies to fund cultural arts organizations in our area, we find ourselves perilously close to being unable to provide the plays you have come to know and love. And so we are asking you, our patrons, to help continue the legacy. Where farm workers one packed fruit, El Teatro Campesino now packs dreams. Join us in celebrating our 42nd year and become a member of El Teatro Campesino.
